Question from first time modder

Hi, I think I'm on the right track with trying to install and get to grips with Weidu, but just to be sure:

If I want to alter existing NPCs kits, stats, dialogues items and spawns, then export as a mod for others to install - is this the best thing to use, or am I going to need something else?

I see lots of documentation on Weidu and just altering dialogue, or creating new NPCs - but I want to alter the base game as an alternative mod, rather than an additional content one. I want to know which files I should be looking at and where to start, and I'm worried I'll end up following tutorials going down a rabbit hole I have no business being in.

Example: If I wanted to alter Xan's spawn points, dialogue, items etc. What would I need?

Cheers for any help!

If you intend to distribute your mod, WeiDU is the only non-optional tool.

Making new NPCs and altering existing NPCs has a large amount of overlap. You just do whatever it is you want to do to the existing NPC instead of adding a new one. Writing/altering dialogue is done the same way, if you know how to add a spawn, you can easily apply that knowledge to alter an existing spawn, etc.

Thanks for the reply, to be more specific, what files should I even be looking at? I see lots of different extensions mentioned, but not sure where to start to find the NPC specific ones so I can just dive in and edit code.
