help with DLTCEP

So after a lot of fiddling, I got DLTCEP to work without reporting errors, and starting trying to write some scripts. However, when it came to testing them I've been unable to get anything working. I created a .cre file, and I can't even get it to spawn, the game saying it doesn't exist when I try via the console.

Weirder still, if I try to find the files in the override folder in explorer, they aren't there, but I can still get to them through DLTCEP and load them up to edit them! They have little padlock symbols on the files, so I'm guessing they aren't properly saved to the disk yet or something? How do I move on from this? I can't find any options in DLTCEP to say 'done, save them properly please'.

Well, the default location of the override folder would be Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition\Data\00766 so it looks as if the second screenshot is looking in the wrong place.

Did you get BGEE via Steam? I think the locations are slightly different that way, going through steamapps.

It is the Steam version yes, but the directory tree is the same for both locations. We are looking at the exact same folder here, only there's nothing in one and they appear in the other.

EDIT: What you said just made me have another look and it was something stupid. DLTCEP needs starting with admin rights or it doesn't actually save anything at all, without warning you. Just tested it now, file appears, and I can summon the cre from the console! Job done! :)

Starting from Vista, installing anything, as Steam does by default, in C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86), is a bug issue when you have to change things in these directories after installation. Even if your account has administrative rights, writing anything in there will typically require elevation to administrateur, either when you launch a software, as you mentioned, or each time you want to copy a file.
Personnaly I installed Steam out of these directories in order to avoid such pain.

If you did the same, DLTCEP wouldn't require administrative rights.

I didn't even consider that as a potential cause--I keep forgetting about doing things with admin rights even though I am always correcting that for our users at work. That's why they call it "a day off" I guess.

Hello, this isn't related to the above posts at all other then it being a DLTCEP problem. I have never done any modding and past bg experience has always been totally vanilla, however I have been wanting to tweak some kits and thought I would give it a shot.

I downloaded shadowkeeper, NI, and DLTCEP from the thread mod tutorial and links and I got the first 2 to work, but I can't seem to get DLTCEP open at all and I'm not really sure how to get into it. I am not very computer savvy, I unzipped the file, and launched the "application" file and all that happens is a black box appears, runs a bunch of text and disappears.

I don't know if any of you know why it wont load or can help me, but any advice would be much appreciated, thanks for reading and happy adventuring!

Are you sure you're talking about DLTCEP and not WeiDU? It sounds more like the latter.

    I got it from here http://sourceforge.net/projects/gemrb/files/Utilities/DLTCEP 7.6a/

Is there a different site to get it from that is better? I also cant access most of the files in the unzipped folder, only the "application" file and a couple of pictures and that's about it, the rest don't seem to have a way for me to open them.
