Any way to increase Font Size in 1.2?

I want to play BG EE on a TV-Screen, but that is simply impossible at the moment. The small text is really exhausting to read. I have read some threads on this topic and even tried the archaic mod which provides a large text mode, but sadly it does not run with 1.2.

The Developers promised to work on this topic, so now with the latest patch, is there any way to increase the font size? Or any trick to decrease resolution without scaling the UI? (At low resolutions the UI seems to scale, regardless if UI-Scaling is enabled or not.)

I would even play at the original 640x480 resolution, if I only could read the text...
