New patch brings big problem.

The new patch was just installed, and now when I'm traveling and there's an encounter, it says as usual, "You have been waylaid by enemies and I must defend myself."

But the screen is black. I can utilize the inventory screen and if I "feel around" I can locate my characters, but there's nothing to see. The control bars are visible. The dialog screen is visible. But action window is black.

    Auto-pause that is.
    Press space and let the little magic dwarves clear the bug for you.

    I do hope that this gets tweaked to work better in the future. The fade in from black shouldn't be dependant of the pause state.
