Ertof Dand... A Bug?

in New Players (NO SPOILERS!)
So I have just emerged from the Underdark and the first time my party rests just outside Watcher's Keep, they get attacked by a group of named bandits. One of them, called Ertof Dand, with a dagger at Jaheira's neck, demands Charname handover all of the party's belongings.

I didn't like any of the options Ertof gave, so took a gamble and decided to fight, calculating that even if Jaheira got killed, I should be able to raise her again. Anyway she was rather pissed off with Charname for his decision.

SO... I decided to Google Ertof and check I haven't screwed up anything significant with Jaheira.

The results I had a glance at (trying to avoid spoilers) implies the Ertof event is part of Jaheira's romance quest... Which is confusing cos Charname chose Aerie a long time ago.

So, is this a bug? Has anyone else encountered this before? And have I messed up anything important?

    No. It happened to me even when I hadn´t romance with Jaheira. It jus happens and doesn´t have any other effect when you are not romancing her.
