(Spoiler Warning) The Thieves Guild...

Hi,

I just went into the Thieves Guild for the first time and I tried to barter with the main man giving out the thieving quest. This didn't go so well and ended up with him setting everyone on me. I managed to kill them all (ridiculously easily, which I wasn't expecting).

My question is, have I missed out on anything important? None of the thieves dropped anything that was that good really. I'm not a huge fan of constantly reloading, I like to make some mistakes.

In fact I don't have a thief in my group since Imoen left because I was being evil and Xzar and Montoron are no longer standing where they should be. (I never spoke to them at the beginning and I presume they leave that area if I complete the mines).

Any ideas on an evil thief?

Cheers

There's a shop there that sells some okay stuff from what I recall (I can't remember if there's anything of special note, except a +2 sling). There is a Dex boost manual in a barrel in one of the side rooms, but you can get that anyway. Other than that its just a couple of minor quests that don't really get you much.

As for another Thief. There is Tiax, who is a multi-classed cleric (and not an especially good one), or you can dual-class Shar-Teel (provided she is under level 8). I recommend the latter, since she makes a very good thief.

Cheers, Shar-Teel sounds like a great plan!

Whether or not you've missed something important depends on what you value. The quests you miss out on don't have any bearing on the game's main story (though if you use the thief stronghold mod in BG2 there's a connection to it there); but I always liked the friendship with Narlen Darkwalk and the way the guild questline concludes.

Yeah, I played thief through BG2 and running the Thieves Guild was my favourite part. Haven't used mods yet, not even sure what they are but I'll read up on them.

So I've kinda always been pro-thief except for this occasion when I ate their faces in werewolf form, I didn't fancy loading and doing anything else.

I thought Imoen stuck with you regardless of your actions? Maybe that's just BG2.

If you like thieves I'd recommend loading or replaying and going through with the plotline there. No awesome items or endgame consequences, but still a good and atmospheric questline.

Imoen will leave if your rep goes super low, as far as I am aware, like all good NPCs.

Yeah Imoen just up and buggered off during a fight with those Flaming Watch Guards or whatever they are called. Luckily Neera wanted to go too but I had the option to convince her to stay.

Safana is a logical choice for an Imoen replacement. She's pretty similar, but Chaotic Neutral, so the Evil stuff wont be a deal breaker.
