Quiestion about importing to BG2

The Golden Pantaloons, and a couple other items will carry over. But mostly, expect to be starting from scratch on your stuff.

Think of your character as being about scores, experience, and a spell book (if a mage). Materialism leads to disappointment (!).

so you think your spell book will be imported to BG2EE?

I see no reason why it wouldn't be.

@Dexter I'm sure you'll start the game as you did in BG2, meaning that you'll have to choose your weapon proficiencies and spells again. Since you're Irenicus' prisoner and he took all of your belongings, I'm surprised that Mages actually have a spell book at the beginning of the game.

i would assume that all the spells you learn in BG1 will be with you in BG2 and i just tested to import my saved game character with golden pantaloos to black pits but they were gone when i started in the arena are they possibly in some kind of chest in the arena somewhere?

@Lokisama The way I see it there are two main options for an import from Black Pits to BG2:

    - Import your Black Pits save file and use an editor to give yourself the pantaloons and other things you feel should be available. You can also use this mod to bring even more items over.

    - Play Black Pits and make a note of the final exp count, new spells learned etc. Then import your BGEE save and use an editor to add what was gained in the Black Pits.

And no, the pantaloons aren't in the black pits, you can't keep them going to BG2 from there without using an editor.

i see thx i guess i will just use the editor then

For pantaloons you can just import your BP char into BG1 again and make a quick run for them (you don't even need to kill anyone, other than maybe that one bounty hunter) and then export char for the final time.
Other items don't really matter since the default choices (that you get in BG2 even if you don't import them) are the best anyway. Namely the helm of Balduran. Armor list doesn't have anything of value for BG2, and weapon list doesn't even work and they're not going to fix it, from what I've read.

The Chainmail +3 does import across, replacing the Chainmail +2. Not really a big deal, but nice if you've got it.

The Golden Pantaloons are something I always (Always!) bring across, yet I rarely actually bring a character all the way to TOB and remember to do the evil option with the kidnapping to get the Silver Pantalets. So I only get the Big Metal Unit about 50% of the time. And I never use it.

What you really want from BG1 is the stat boosts from tomes, and that imports across regardless.

yeah those books are pretty important if you wanna maximize your character in BG2 thats one of the reasons you should import character instead of making new one in BG2 and now with the same rule set you dont get screwed up like in the older BG1 where it was running with the older rules

@Mortianna He takes that too, leaving only spells you know how to cast by heart, forcing you to make a new spellbook and re-memorize spells out of those select few.

@GemHound It would have been more realistic if Mages had to create their spell books all over again. Why would he take everything except your spell book? I'm sure the original game developers figured most players wouldn't be too thrilled about having zero starting spells (besides your innate Bhaalspawn powers), and decided to go with the reduced spell book instead. Still, having to start your spell book(s) from scratch would add to the whole idea that you've been captured and imprisoned. However, it probably would have made the Mage/Specialist Wizard class less appealing for some.

Since Mages in 2e use the memorize-cast-forget model, they don't have the ability to develop the Spell Mastery feat ("spells that you know by heart") which became a feature in 3e. This makes one's spell book(s) all the more important to safeguard.

@Mortianna True. I was trying to make an excuse for the spell book still being there other than for the new players and mechanics.

@Mortianna I just thought of one.
Irenicus takes your spellbook, and replaces it with another that has spells he believes will help you escape incase his dungeon gets overrun. Perfectly within character too.
