This question sort of popped up, and another member wanted to see what the community thought.
When I say inventory display, I mean the actual model of the character in the middle of the screen.

Yes, an elf BGII paperdoll is a good example of models improvement, but you should have made a pic of an elf in BGI too, and preferably both in armor.

    I prefer the BG1 style.

My gripe with the paper dolls and the in-game avatars are that the half-elf and the elf are the same. I have always had an affinity for half-elves, in part due to my first enjoyable playthrough being as a half-elf. I wish there was an actual paper doll, and an avatar, for the half-elf, as opposed to being lumped in with the elves.

I thought BG2 paperdolls were really ugly.

I liked a lot of the art for the paperdolls in BG2. I liked a lot of the flourishes they gave various models. Sadly BG:EE feels quite bland in that area. I wouldn't say every one was perfect, but I feel the BG2 paperdolls were better overall.

I also hope we don't lose the inventory item icons as well in BG2:EE. I really liked some of those designs as well.

Inventory icons(paperdolls), were better in BG2 for me.

The actual in game avatars were better in BG1.

While I don't disagree with you (and would go one further in that you should have a choice of paper doll/character icon when creating your character), I am curious why you specifically think that Elves/Half-elves in particular are the problem here.

My personal complaint would be the way Half-Orcs look. Just because you have orc lineage, doesn't mean that you are Oscar the Grouch on steroids. And some might actually wear armor properly, instead of the grunge look of ripped skins with bits of metal sewed in.

All in all though, so long as you can tell the difference between two characters, does it really matter that much?

This is true of many races. there's overlap between Gnome and Dwarf models as well as Half-Orc and Human models (not paperdolls for this one but the actual character model). Sadly the fair folk aren't the only ones getting screwed.
