I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere.
If you use your familiar to speak to an NPC that usually gives an item, you'll get two items instead. One is given to main char and one is placed in the familiars bag. Easiest way to test is pick up Phlydia's book in Candlekeep then speak to her using the familiar.
