What to spend gold on?

Hi Guys,

OK so I've accumulated a lot of gold and was wondering if there's anything expensive in the game that I could buy? Any particular weapons or armour?

Cheers

Erm... which game? BG 1, BG 2? Vanilla or EE?

Also what stage in the game are you in?

I'm Shapeshifter Druid but don't mind buying for other characters. Playing BG1:EE.

You know, if you get enough gold; you can buy a yacht. Jaheira will hang out on the deck in a bikini.

There's Full Plate and a couple of neat weapons like the Dagger of Venom and the Crossbow of Speed. Other than that... stock up on useful potions, recharge your wands, spend the rest on arrows of detonation and dispelling.

You know you'd rather see Jaheira in a bikini...

Ok... still no imformation about exactly how much gold u got, who u got in ur party and what stage of the game u are in. Cos u know... when I first played this game, I got excited when I got 2000 gold, thinking 'YESSS I'M RICH!'

    Anyways here's a few I like:

    1) Light Crossbow of Speed (I think it's called the Army Scythe in BG EE) is very good for anyone proficient. I gave it to Imoen. Sold at the blacksmith in Beregost at the SE corner of town.

    2) Shadow Armor: the best armour in BG EE for a thief. I also gave it to Imoen, and u can also buy it from the smithy in Beregost.

    3) Ankheg Armor: If you collect an Ankheg Shell just north of the Friendly Arm Inn, bring the shell to the store in Nashkel and he will forge it into a great set of armour for you, for a bargain price.

    4) Robe of the Good/Neutral Archmagi: The best 'armour' u can give to a mage (of the appropriate alignment). You can buy it from the mage tower in High Hedge. There's lots of scrolls, potions and other goodies there too.

    What to get and where:

    1) Thunderhammer Smithy, Beregost: Full plate, Shadow armor, Dagger of Venom, Army Scythe Crossbow.

    2) High Hedge: Archmage robes (alignment appropriate), potions of explosions, oils of fiery burning.

    3) Ulgoth's Beard Inn: Cloak of Displacement, Wand of the Heavens, Belt of Inertial Barrier, Staff +3.

    4) Sorcerous Sundries, Baldur's Gate: Wands of Monster Summoning, Fire and Paralyzation (1 of each for all of your Mages and bards), any spell scrolls you need. Stacks of +2 Arrows, bolts and bullets to replace your non-magical ones, which makes your pure mages and thieves a lot more effective at range. Acid arrows and arrows of biting for special occasions.

    5) Generally, if you see any of these, buy them: Storm Giant strength potions, Potions of Power, Potions of Agility and Fortitude, Potions of Invulnerability, Potions of Magic Shielding, Potions of mirrored eyes.

That list should eat through 200k pretty quickly. Just make sure you've got your highest charisma character leading!

I wouldn't advice on buying plate armors. You can get free ankheg and plate right at the start, if you know where to go and look :)

Depending on how much you use your thief and backstabbing Shadow Armor can be worth it otherwise I say wait with it till you bought other stuff first.

Archmage robes are alao luxury. Play correct and your mages shouldn't be in danger.

Dagger of Venom, Cloak of Displacement, Claw of K(something, I never remember the name), Wands, Spell Scrolls.
Is what I would suggest that you start with.

Buy anything that is better than what you currently have. You will be so rich eventually.. :b

cheers guys, lots of help :)

The full plate will probably be best for me. The 2 Ankegs I already have and will be going on Vicona and Tiax. I'm rarely using thief offensive abilites on this run, mostly because I find it time consuming. So I kinda use Tiax for offensive cleric spells and Viconia for defensive spells.

I've got like 110k to waste, but have already collected plenty of potions and wands through quests and killing people. Maybe I need to turn the difficulty up because I haven't many really difficult fights yet. Although I do use the wands quite a lot, mainly to stop mages casting their first barrage of spells.

I got the Nymph cloak so my charisma is currently at 19 :). Of course I could use Dorn and get it to 20 but I like having my main at the front.

    Thanks :)

Ankheg is actually inferior to nonmagical full plate. Its only saving grace is that it's light.

That's not all that interesting in BG when Khalid is still around. In BG2, though...

For BG1 we can have Imoen in a bikini instead. It's okay as long as you don't know...
