Beamdog Server Crash Imminent?

Just getting slower, and slower, and slower. I'm currently downloading at 200 BYTES per second. Not even in the Kilabyte range.

I went from having 1 minute left to 23 hours!! :P

Don't worry about it, it oscillates. I've been downloading since 7:35 PM, it's now 9:05 and I'm at 1.1 GB currently hauling butt at 500 kB/s. At around 8:30 it was about 26 kB/s.

I'm at 2.6GB or 2.6GB, but it was stuck at at bytes per second for a long while. Toggling the turbo setting didn't help, but when I clicked on the "configure" button under download locations I ended up killing the launcher on accident. When I relaunced I was back in the KB range, but at the moment it's onl at around 3 KB/sec. Err, no, just dropped to 300B/S. And now back up to 1.5KB. Download times goes from 1 minute to hours in a blink of an eye

    And 16 seconds....

    23 seconds...

    26 seconds....

    32 seconds....

    51 seconds....

    2 minutes...

    59 minutes....

    1 hour 7 minutes....

    Such a roller coaster ride.

I suspect that they use some kind of a round robin queue to handle the server traffic... to be honest; I don't really have a clue. I think the client is calculating it based on instantaneous download speed... no averaging. It's actually a horrible way to make a download time prediction.

The instantaneous download speed metric is standard, though; go figure.

And it finally completed. Now you all have 1 less person hogging up the bandwidth (except I'm still on the message boards, which are clearly using shared bandwidth).

Well, I have 1.3 GB downloaded. :) Halfway done. I guess I'll have to continue puttzing around on this board.

At one point my download said it would take 86 years. I had to laugh. Aged 115 I finally get to play.

After all that waiting, just think of how excited you'd be to finally play though!!

If you could still find your computer, that is.

Speed varies on which server you are getting each chunk from. We've got many servers out there and sometimes you get a slow chunk. The system works.

Well, technically yes, it worked, but I hope you are not trying to imply that 200 bytes per second download speeds are in any way efficient. It seems it would be far better to say something like:

"yep, our servers are getting hammered from the flood of downloads, and so you're going to see some unacceptably slow download speeds at times. Sorry about that. I recommend that you go do something else and let the downloader do its thing."

I mean, when I did the initial preload a few days ago it never got that slow, not even close. So clearly your servers are getting hammered. It not like it's entirely unexpected, but it seems odd to just completely act like it's all humming along nicely.

    Just sayin'

@marceror I agreed only because I could not like, agree, and find your post insightful simultaneously:)

Sorry, I went and did something else for awhile. Thanks for providing a bit of an explanation of how you are handling things behind the scenes, Trent. That's kind of cool!

You've always been quick to address anyone's concerns. Again, I really hope that you folks are able to work on BGIII. I think you could do a really good job with it. :)
