Unsure how to port portraits/sound sets from bg 1 ee.

Ok so I'm utterly disappointed they didn't bother to keep the additional sound sets and portraits from BG 1 EE. I am pretty sure there is a way to do this but I can't seem to figure out where the actual files are. If anyone has a clue where this is and how to port it over please let me know!

Depending on whether you used the stand-alone installer or the Beamdog client, it'll be in:

    Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition\Data\00766\lang\en_US\sounds

And then you'll put the files into the same folder within Baldur's Gate II Enhanced Edition\Data\#####\lang\en_US\sounds

They should work without any additional effort, although you'll probably want to rename them so they don't overwrite the existing BGII:EE sound sets.

What about the portraits how do we know which is which?

Seems solid enough for sounds, but portraits... no idea on that one yet.

You have a couple of options; first, you can use Near Infinity to extract the portrait you're using, and then just copy it into Documents\Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition\portraits, and then assign it to your character in-game through the Customize menu.

Actually, that's probably the best solution. Tag me if you'd like a slightly more in-depth explanation of how to do that, and I'll try to get to it tomorrow morning.

Can you explain @Dee why you guys didn't simply automatically have them be there?

I couldn't comment specifically, but if I had to guess I'd say it was probably just an oversight.

Well I can't figure out which file on the list, using the program you specificied, to open the portraits.

Also there is no button to load up custom portraits in bg2... Not that I can see anyway.

Ok, got the ones I need, still no way to import them yet, as the custom portraits button isn't there :/ I can wait though not crucial right now.

You made a folder called portraits under your \Documents\Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition?

What about the other way around? The new Gnome portrait is brilliant, perfect for my planned cleric/illusionist. But I can't find the new portraits in the BMP folder of BG2:EE with Near Infinity.
EDIT: ok, found them, they're called yanner(number)(size).bmp

Does the reverse process work for importing BG2:EE voices into BG:EE?

Also, is there a way to import the matching subtitles for these voices into one game or the other?

Could some kind soul simply make the pics available online? Maybe Beamdog could do that as temporary fix.

At the moment the reverse process won't work; we fixed custom soundsets for BGII:EE, but the change hasn't been backported to BG:EE yet.

By fixed, do you mean we can make our own soundsets without having to name them CustomX?

Yes. They won't have subtitles, but you can just drag-and-drop like you used to be able to do.

Wait my character from BGEE was imported into BG2EE without his portrait. Can I fix this somehow? His voice also wasn't an option (the awesome new dwarf voice from BGEE) but this thread seems to clear that up.

Edit: NM figured it out. Thanks for the voice set fix.

@Dee Is there an effort underway to fix the reverse process?

Will there eventually be a way to import subtitles into either game?

For those of us that aren't as each with whatever near infinity is, is there an easier way to get the bgee dwarf portrait from bg1ee? I found a scaled down version in my final save folder, and it works for my portrait in game, but it stretches when I go to the character screen.

The simplest way to import it would be to take a screenshot of your character screen in BG1EE, crop it down to just the portrait, and drop it in the BG2EE portraits folder.

I'm weirdly relieved that my Dragon Disciple has been able to recover his previous voice...

Which dwarf? Do a screenshot so I know which one it is and I'll upload the large portrait so you can resize it and use it.

I've been trying to find a folder with the BGEE portraits in it so I can just drop that into BG2EE. Why is that not an option?

I couldn't agree more! The lack of the portraits was an annoying enough oversight, but not being able to easily fix it yourself is ourtageous.

@Dee: Could you please explain how to do it without using Near Infinity, if that is possible? I don't have the slightest idea what Near Infinity is.
