BG2EE won't launch, "has stopped working"

This is the steam version.

I installed the game and tried to start the game, but it crashed before it even opened the game.

I got this error log:
Problem Event Name:..........APPCRASH

What worries me is that nowhere does it actually say this is Baldur's Gate 2, but Baldur's Gate and it is also app ver. 0.1.0.0.

I hope you can help me.

I tried many times :P I've reinstalled the game 5 times. I can't make 8 mins of it either, but that's what it says..

EDIT: It says 9 mins now. My guess is that it runs in the background for 20 secs or so after closing it.

Hmm, the dmp file has not been generated and I don't have a single folder/subfolder called crash in the steam directory.

This is how my BG2 directory looks. As I said earlier there's no real indication that it is actually BG2. Except the folder name and that that was the game I bought...

I love you man :) that did the trick. Thanks a bunch. I had already done everything except adding it to DEP exceptions.

Not sure if it would be more appropriate to open my own thread or not, but as my issue is identical to this one (Steam version, same fault module and error code from windows' log, no crash folder/.dmp being generated by the game, etc), posting here seems... okay, at least. Saves me posting screenshots of my folder and other details, like the lazy person I am. ^^

The one difference between Atotehz's issue and mine - adding Baldur.exe (under steamapps/common/Baldur's Gate II...) to the DEP exceptions isn't having any effect. I've tried reinstalls/redownloads of OpenAL and the game itself and compatibility modes without effect.

One thing that stands out: I'm having the same issue with Baldur's Gate (1) Enhanced Edition. I've not installed any system updates since last playing BG1, which was just after the latest patch for it. As far as I know, it was working fine until I first installed BG2. (Noticed the same issue with BG1 _before_ I started fiddling about with trying to get BG2 running, but after installing BG2. Hasn't been caused by my attempts to get BG2 working ^^).

    I am confused. =/

    similar problem...
cant launch the program/game at all, no error message or even a blip of the game at all.

click on the .exe and nothing happens, or if it does it doesn't actually do anything besides crash.
one of the times i tried to start it did hang in the background idling long enough for me to actually see it there and shut it down... other than that, nothing.

have re-installed, closed down steam completely, tried a fix that worked on BG:EE... have even tried using dosbox to run as admin and in winxp modes.

    nothing seems to work.
