"Cannot Save.." while AoE spell is in effect

Hi,

I know that no version of Baldur's Gate has ever allowed me to save while there is an area of effect spell (Cloudkill, Web, Entangle, etc) active in the area. As I'm sure there is a very good reason for that, I'm wondering what that reason is?

Would loading the game in the middle of an active spell break the game somehow, like causing the spell to remain active forever?

Just curious, so hopefully someone savvy will have an answer. :)

If there is no good reason, how about making it possible to save in these situations after all?

You could simply press quick save/reload to clear all harmful area affecting spells. (Well, while not in combat).

@Avenger_teambg Sorry, I'm not sure I understand your suggestion, because what I think you suggest is not possible.

What I'm asking in this thread is why it is impossible to save the game while an area affecting spell is in effect.

Because it would open an exploit to remove AoE spells in effect. Of course, the engine could just save all AOE effects, then there wouldn't be any problem. This would have been a good solution when the game was first implemented. Now i guess we would have to break the fileformat to implement something like this.
