BGII:EE Incredibly slow gameplay.

Hey all! Hope this is getting posted in the right spot.

So I launch BGII and it works great. Intro screen, character creation, and everything works as it should, but when I click "Accept" and the game goes to start... everything slows down INCREDIBLY. All the dialogue is said spells are cast, but the first cut-scene took 1 hour. I let it play through hoping things would pick up afterwards, but nothing. I saved a game after speaking to Imoen about escaping, quit the game, restarted, and loaded my save, but nothing. I also attempted to make a new character--nothing.

Edit: The game runs at about 1FPS. I tried Black Pits 2 and Bhaal, but the issue persists.

I purchased BG:EE awhile ago from the Apple Store and it works perfectly fine on this machine.

Any tips?

Thanks in advance!

Hey I tend to have this same problem everyone once in a while, but normally restarting my BG client will fix it. I am on a PC.

I presume you have 10.6 or 10.7 at maximum. Your OpenGL is not 2.0 and is at 1.4 level. Probably machine switches to software renderer. Generally speaking your mac is pretty old for more or less modern effects which BG use.

Hey guys, thanks for the quick response.

    @Renulan -- I restarted with no luck.

@Stauff -- 10.6.8, which is above the min requirements, I believe. Worked great for BG:EE :-(

A temporary fix that sometimes works is to zoom in all the way and then zoom out to a desired level

Trent posted in my thread about the same issue and basically said the minimum requirements have changed since 1.2 and BG2:EE

In my mind it's simply closed the gap on how out dated your hardware can be to have a smooth experience

    Unfortunately the zooming didn't work.

There goes $25 and a good time :-(

    Thank you for your replies.

I'm taking a guess that 64 Mb shared Vram isn't enough.

Have you installed all the latest drivers for your hardware?

Also it says you have no display connected to your integrated graphics? Maybe you aren't getting any graphics acceleration at all for your games?

I'm not sure. I just figured that it would work since BG:EE did.

I do not have a separate display--I am using my laptop screen.

    Thanks for the input!
