bg2ee crashes when i click multiplayer button

I dont have any problems with bgee. Played it extensively with friends online, but bg2ee crashes everytime i click the multiplayer button on the main menu. i can launch singleplayer just fine. I've reinstalled and still have same problem. it brings the finding network devices window up but its mostly blank and thats where it crashes 100% of the time. I've looked in the ini file to see if I could find the network setting for tcp\beamdog and change it, but i couldnt find it. Tried a few compatability modes, but no luck. any help would be appreciated.
running win7 64bit i5 with 540m video card.
