Edwin and Neera (Spoilers)

So I completed BGEE yesterday, and had Edwin and Neera in my party the entire time. There were no conflicts between the two that I ever saw.

Now in BG2EE I'm a little puzzled that Edwin refuses to be in the same party as Neera. Is there anyway to get them to work together, or is this truly an either/or situation?

If so, I guess I won't get to see what a high level wild mage is all about after all, since Edwin definitely stays in my evil party. Neera had been my romance option in BGEE, so this is a bit of a bummer. Hmm, maybe I'll transfer to multiplayer and roll up an evil dragon disciple. Hmm, so much for all my planning....

Well, I'm not going to spoil it, but if you play through Neera's quest, you'll see why Edwin and her can't be in a party with each other.

Well, I can make a pretty simple guess about that.

Red Wizards are after wild mages, and Edwin is a Red Wizard, but this wasn't an issue in BGEE for whatever reason

It actually was—if you had recruited Neera with Edwin in your party, he would have left with these words: "I cannot abide this foolishness! It was one thing to fend off my fellow Red Wizards, but I will not aid this woman when she is the target of my own brethren! If you give shelter to this urchin, I will take my leave of you."

Most players probably encounter them the other way around though.

Yep, it's logical that most will meet Neera in Beregost, and then Edwin later in Nashkell. Hmm, so I guess I can at least try doing the same thing in BG2EE... dismiss Edwin, add Neera, and then try to re-add Edwin.

    Won't work anymore. :P

Was just coming back to report that. Hmm, okay, hmm. Guess I'll take a rest from the game tonight and figure out how I want to restructure my party. I've been planning it out this way for at least a month, so I don't want to make any knee jerk decisions.

So does this mean that the ability to do this in BGEE is technically a bug?

I feel dumb, I never saw Neera and Edwin not working. (And I do know about Edwin and Neera's story.) :p
Tiny bit sad to find this out. ;-; Sucha typical blonde.

Mostly it's a pity because one of the greatest encouragements to replay the game is to find out what every other possible party member has to snarkily comment at Edwina.

Not really - from a logical/story point of view, the only way Edwin would know that the Red Wizards were after Neera would be if he was actually there when Ekandor shows up. If you recruit him when Neera is already in the party, how would he know? (It's also a subtle reminder that Edwin's position with the Red Wizards isn't quite as high as he likes to think - they didn't bother to give him a heads-up about her).

I didn't try to take Edwin with me this time since there was no space in my party anymore but I was looking forward to doing that another time, just to see what kind of comments they would have to each other. I think it's strange that you can't take them together since Rasaad and Viconia don't have that problem afaik and one could argue with Rasaads quest they would be in a similar situation.

They do actually discuss it, at least in BGEE. I assume they can tolerate each other because Rasaad's a lot less of a jerk than Edwin.

It's interesting that the game art distributed for BG2EE shows Neera and Edwin fighting a beholder together.

Neera is trying to wild surge heal it to help it kill Edwin.

And she's doing a very poor job, as the Beholder is attacking her rather than him! ;)

Its too bad this happened, when I first ported over, my original party was going to have these two in it, as were both in my first BGEE party with no complaints at all between eachother. Would a Edwin post-quest be more willing to let Neera into the party?
  • JalilyJalily Member Posts: 4,681
    No.

@Jalily hmm... I thought he would since he turns on a Red Wizard and kills him at the end of it. But I also see how he would not.

I found a way some days ago: after I figured out the "refuse" I thought "dead caracters can't complain".
I killed Edwin, recruted Neera and ressurect him... after her quests were completed I dismissed her.
But there is a price... some bugs related to the nether scroll: this quest was reseted, Edwin recast the transformation going back to the male form.

So, if Edwin storms off and I pick up Neera to do the quest - there's no way to get Edwin back?

uh... keep neera. I was playing a good play through and killed edwin cuz he wanted me to murder someone and I have no regretts.

This was my biggest disappointment with EE. Edwin and Neera could have had some hilarious banters and Edwin is barely a Red Wizard

Well, of course. Why would I attack my familiar if there is a way more appealing target? S̶̨͞O͢͢ CÓ͡N̨͟͝F͏͜ÚS̸͘͘E̵̕D

For me, when it comes between Edwin and Neera, I choose Edwin as at least he is honest about it.
