Cannot cast spells in the Black Pits

My brother and I created some chars for the Black Pits. We had the spell failure affect on all of our chars when walking around. However, during the first battle in the arena, all of my brother's chars (who was the host), no longer were affected by the Spell Failure, however, my chars (including my Wild Mage) were still affected and could not cast spells. My brother's cleric was able to cast spells without issue.

We also tried loading the save before the fight and giving my brother control of my mage, but the mage was still unable to cast spells.

    must be a multiplayer issue there. I know that the readying area has spell failure to avoid pre buffing there, but of course it should go away when you enter the arena as it did for your brother

    We also tried having my brother create the mage and the giving me control of it in game, but that didn't work either.

    We loaded a save and my brother kept control of my mage. However, once the battle started he was also unable to use my mage to cast spells.

    I forgot to rest at the bunks. I will try that tomorrow.

    I actually transferred control of my mage in the lobby though. Also, my brother transferred his cleric to me during the fight and there was no Spell Failure symbol on the cleric's portrait (I didn't get a chance to check if I could cast a spell, since I got killed right after).

    EDIT: One more thing. The other two members of my party (barbarian and shadow-dancer) also had the Spell failure symbols on them.

    Also I don't know if this matters, but during the opening bar scene we chose to resist being captured and the mage was killed and his portrait disappered. We saved the game once we were in the bunks and I recreated him.
