Area of effect markers

In Neverwinter Nights, when you are about to cast a fireball spell you get a nice circle around the mouse pointer that shows you clearly who will be hit by its area of effect. Why wasn't this sort of thing added to BG:EE?

This would be cool, but I wonder if it's an engine limitation. Seems like something that would have been added if it were easy. I do remember the old school Shattered Lands and Wake of The Ravager games had this feature, and they were much earlier.

This should be posted in Feature Requests. And similar thread was created there

I remember bringing this up around the release of BGEE, it seems like a considerable challenge, but it might help that there's already a scalable circle indicator in the "guard" function. I wants it tooooo.

Hmm. I agree this would be nice in a fashion.

On the other hand it adds an element of skill to the game that with some practice you'll get a feel for roughly who you can hit with a fireball without getting friendly fire, and also how far away you have to run when someone launches one your way.

I was looking through the AoE-size of different spells to prove you wrong with my brain-smtars, but a great many of them (arcane ones at least) are 30ft and therefore equable in terms of "learnings"'s to the fireball. There's a few exceptions, but they aren't the rule for AoE (hold-x for example).

This is already in feature requests, it is not impossible to make, but it is definitely not easy and not the highest priority either.

I would recommend that if this was enabled, it should be an option that you can turn on and off, or be related to difficulty.

I kinda enjoyed the surprise and hilarity when Dynaheir accidentally blew up the entire party the first time I used fireball... or when a Lightning Bolt rebounded repeatedly across the room and killed everyone. I think learning to master the subtleties of the magic system is hugely immersive and fun.

You can anticipate the rebound of the lightning bolt?!

I for one welcome our new robotic overlord.

Seriously, though, that thing goes wherever the hell it pleases most of the time.
