When I dual class from thief to mage, I lose the thief icons.

As the title says.
I'm trying to dual class with a human after some levels, and every time I lose my thief icons making my trap detect/lock pick/hide in shadows un-usable.

Am I missing something here?

Dual-classing disables your original class until the new chosen class catches up with your original.

How does it proceed from there? Do I get to keep both abilities or will they keep on disabling each other on level up?
I'm trying to play a shadow thief (hide in plain sight is my favourite ability ever) with some mage stuff in it, I really dig the idea of being invisible and casting around, which means I can't just create a vanilla mage/thief from the start page by choosing a non-human.

You will be able to use both. Why don't you try it out in Black Pits how it works and if the combo is what you expect it to be before you invest too much time in it in the real game?

Minor spoiler: there is an item later that can turn a mage invi on equipping it creating basically the effect you want. Now other thief skills will of course also be handy...

At one point in the process of Dual-Classing a character there's a bunch of text titled "CAUTION!". Reading that text will explain the basics of what dual-classing is and how it works, including the suppression of your abilities from your first class, and how/when you get them back.

Once your mage level exceeds that of your prior thief level you'll regain access to your thief skills. You can never progress those skills any further as it'll be your mage levels which progress.

So if you were a 4 level thief you'll need to get to level 5 as a mage to regain those skills.

Sadly Black Pits crashes every time I try to start a game, no idea why.
I'm still on my way to finishing SoA and ToB tho, so I have some time before I reach that.

I guess I'll just use the console to try it out, thanks for the advice tho.

    Oh, I see now.
    Thank you very much!
