Questions about AI Scripts (BG 2 Vanilla)

Yes... I still play Vanilla. I am being disciplined about finishing my current playthrough before starting with a new EE run.

I am wondering how other people use AI scripts, and if anyone has any advice for me.

So I think in BG EE I had most of my party on 'Passive', so they just fired arrows/bullets at enemies unless I gave a more specific order. That's good most of the time cos BG 1 battles tend to be dominated by missile weapons, with a tank or two just holding the line.

In BG 2 things get a bit more complex. My Charname Fighter/Mage tends to fight in the first line alongside Anomen. Minsc usually joins them, but ideally in a second line. Jaheira, Imoen and Aerie provide magical/ranged support.

I've tried putting Charname, Anomen and Minsc on 'Standard Attack', which is great for easy battles, where I just send them next to the enemy, and they promptly butcher them automatically. However, Standard Attack makes it nearly impossible to use any AoE attacks safely cos my warriors charge in screaming before any spells are released. Also even more annoyingly, Charname and Anomen often interrupt their own spell casting and just rush the nearest enemy and swing away, with the spell I ordered wasted. If I put them on Passive, I don't want them to use bows/slings when there is an enemy next to them, since Celestial Fury and Flail of Ages much better weapons. Is there any way to get around this problem? Is any any scripts where your characters' behaviour is dependent on how close an enemy is? Like 'stand and shoot until enemy is within 15 ft, then switch to melee weapon and engage'.

Also, because Imoen doesn't have good stealth, I tend to scout with her using Invisibility... but if I keep her in Passive, she shoots enemies she spots, and breaks cover. Is there like a stealth mode AI that prevents that? But still means she will shoot arrows/throw Minute Meteors when she is not in stealth mode or invisible?

Incidentally... have there been any AI script changes in BG 2 EE?

Yes, the Thief Controlled script does exactly that.

For reference, this is a new player AI script which was introduced in BGII:EE.

I see... so in BG 2 Vanilla, my best bet would be Thief Scout I guess?

Yes, the Thief Scout script is designed not to attack while the thief is in stealth mode or invisible.
