Kanon Characters anyone feel little bad about them?

I mean that the game kinda force us as good character to take kanon characters in bg1 - imoen , khal and jah, minsc and dynaheir. And imo, jah and minsc with bg2 leaving you little place or none for others and if you ditch any of thease you are jerk defiling memory of gorion or very bad brother or very bad friend. So any of you feels bad as me taking other party members even if you played with them perhaps several times alredy?

Yes. Yes you are. But it's up to you. If you are playing a bhaalspawn who actually wants all of Bhaal's power for themselves, you might start to see Imoen as another potential rival and eliminate her... I mean, I just try to roleplay characters as best I can and sometimes bhaalspawn are just jerks.

Minsc and Jaheira claiming they traveled a lot with you in BGII doesn't have to mean you have to use them in BG; you can easily imagine them travelling with you for a bit between the games. And at points in both games you can feed Jaheira lines like "Sure, you may travel with me, but remember this is -my- life, not Gorion's" and she tends to respect those even, so you're not really upsetting Gorion's buddies by not dragging them along. As for Imoen... growing up with someone doesn't mean you have to like them. I have siblings so I'm definitely sure about that one.

Well, Jaheira and Minsc were both dead, so I left those weird things in the cages in the dungeon. Also told Imoen to get lost and soloed my way to the surface. XD

Yeah tbh unless your PC is a total rebel from square one it is only logical to have Imoen, Khalid, and Jaheira in your party. Pretty ridiculous. I have a real hard time justifying not having them.

The only character that I ever feel 'guilty' about not taking when playing a 'good' PC is Imoen.

As for Khalid and Jaheira, I just ignore them. I don't talk to them once, and they helpfully disappear after clearing the mines. (I just assume that they never made it to the Friendly Arm Inn to meet me.)

I take Minsc to rescuer Dynaheir. Afterwards, I assume that they have their own mission, and drop them off at a friendly inn somewhere.

and drop them off at a friendly inn somewhere.

Nashkel inn always gets so crowded...

Nope. Exactly for the reason that I played with those already several times, I absolutely don't feel bad about not taking them. It's also the reason why I usually play with a mixed party of 3-4 own created chars and just 1-2 story NPCs.

In my games the what i handle it is Yeah i did spend some tiem with Khalid and Jaheira, i went with them from the Friendly Arm inn to the Mines in Nashkel. At that point i parted ways with them. Also yeah i did spend time with minsc, enough time to help him rescue Dynaheir. Then i went back to it being me, Iomen, Dorn, Neera and Viconia. (with the last spot swapped out as needed

As for me I'm always parking Khalid and Jaheira in the Nashkel's tavern as they have to "check other leads in the Iron crisis". Charname meet them again soon after the main storyline ends.

Well I want my games to make sense from a roleplay perspective, so in both my BG 1 playthroughs, I only used the canon characters, and in BG 2 I am travelling with Imoen, Jaheira and Minsc (plus Anomen and Aerie).

However I think I will be more flexible in the future. The story can still make sense and be significant if you choose different companions. For my next BG EE playthrough, I intend to have Kivan and Neera replace Minsc and Dynaheir as core party members. But I will rescue Dynaheir non-the-less and maybe do a few side-quests quests with the Rashemians(?) in my party. That way, I've got the connection to Minsc if I decide to travel with him in BG 2 EE and Dynaheir's... fate, still has significance.

That said I feel that Khalid and Jaheira are 'extra canon' for BG 1 because Gorion specifically asks you to seek them out, and they are kinda Charname's guardians, so I will always stick with them in BG 1 unless I play an evil Charname (which I will probably never do).

I think you can be more flexible in BG 2 as a good Charname. Of course Imoen is essential... but after that Jaheira could leave for Harper business and Minsc might seek glorious death in battle... Or both could be too traumatised/broken by the torture and loss they have suffered, so Charname can form a whole new team.

If I didn´t use Jaheira or Minsc in BG1 I just pretend that their cages are empty. I let them there. They weren´t with me in BG1 so they are not in prison with me. Problem solved. Imoen is a different story. She is essential to the plot but I don´t have any problem with her. I really like her. She is my favourite NPC.

Oh I don't know. Maybe charname got lost on the way to FAI or forgot what Gorion said or got distracted by Xzar and Monty and headed straight for Nashkel. Or maybe he went to FAI and just couldn't find them.

Khalid and Jaheira have been compromised, why else would there be an assassin waiting for me right outside the inn? At least my buddy Xzar was nice enough to give me a healing potion for free, and there were no assassins waiting for me there. Well, except Monty but he's my assassin now.

For BG2, I bring Imoen because she's my connection to the plot. If it weren't for her I'd just let Irenicus do his thing while I do mine. Why would I chase him to a godforsaken rock like Spellhold when I could be conquering Amn?

Having Jaheira means I get to kill Harpers, so she gets a spot as well. As for Minsc, I find him a new witch and let him and Aerie go their own way.

That's one thing i loved about BGT, the continuity. If Jaheira happened to get chunked on the Sword Coast somewhere for example, she definitly won't be in that cage in Irenicus' dungeon

See, I had Jahiera and Minsc in my party in bg1, but I sent Khalid and Dynaheir on solo suicide scout runs, then removed them from my party so I could add Vicky and Edwin. So the part that always confused me was how and why exactly Irenicus bothered resurrecting years dead people, and why Minsc and Jaheira were so affected. I know it was the way the game was designed, but from my characters perspective it is odd.

It's just the original developers making some big assumptions about who most people chose to take with them on their BG1 playthroughs. I think the characters in the cage should be able to be swapped out depending on who was in your party on your final save in BG1. Well, maybe not Imoen, since she's a pretty big part of the main story in SoA

Also, there aren't years between BG1 and BG2. I think it's like weeks.

My playthrough took at least one in game year, and Khalid anf Dynaheir died in the first tenday. I think my choice of words is justified.

I didn't take a single one of them even on my good-aligned playthrough (party of LG Cavalier, Neera, Branwen, Rasaad, Alora, Faldorn). I always disliked that BG2 imposes a continuity even if it makes no sense and directly contradicts the first game (Minsc will still be in that cage in my evil game even though Edwin and I killed Dynaheir and blew him to bits), but meh, it's an old game. Like the often lame and arbitrarily underrewarding options available to evil characters, it's disappointing now but the fact it existed at all was pretty innovative back in the day.

I take Jahera and Khalead threw naskel mines like Gorian wanted but after that we part ways, I have work to do and they have to go back to being harpers. After Sarvok is dead the adventure is over and most the party splits up to do there own thing since my mission is done I don't hold them in my service. I bump in to Khaleed and Jahera later has I seek to leave the Bauldurs Gate area. Do to the whispering about me being Bhalspwen. and we share the road for a bit.

I never play with Dynaheir, Minsc, Khalid and Jaheira. and in BG2 I use Minsc and Jaheira until I can get Aerie and also get to the Copper Coronet.

I'm not much of a role-player and don't even care for Imoen... but unless I'm playing an absolutely evil character I just can't bring myself to ditch her at Spellhold.

Because you want all the confiscated artifacts Spellhold probably has locked away somewhere!
