If I start as a fighter, take two profs in katana, dual to thief, take a prof in katana, will I have three when my fighter class becomes active again?

thanks

But you can save pips if you don't level up.

FYI, you will have 2 pips, the highest amount of pips is chosen, you're best off chosing another weapon to invest him while in the learning period of your dual class.

As @Drayen said, when dual-classing and regaining an old class, you get whatever the highest number of pips is that you spent in something. They are not cumulative. My advice for dual-classing is to be very mindful of this, and plan the spending of your points accordingly. Alternatively, you can do as @FinneousPJ suggested and hold off on leveling up until you have enough XP to regain your old class on level-up (in which case you will be allowed to spend the accumulated points according to your new, full dual). That can be a hassle sometimes, or it can be a neat trick. Plan ahead!

The trick @FineousPJ suggested is quite doable and fairly simple in SoA if you dual at levels 7 or 9, since you require 70k or 160k experience, respectively. If you run with a small party or stave off turning some quests in (requires some metagaming) you can get that XP back pretty fast. =)
