Should I dual class my assassin? If so with what?

Like the topic suggests just doing a play through now as an assassin never really bothered to ever dual class before. Any suggests?

Fighter seems the only choice. I'd stick with pure assassin tough, at least untull UAI.

mage is the only answer you need

Well if you've rolled your character already, your choices depend on the stats you have.

Also I'm kinda stuck there's an extra panel that is shows ground items ontop of my regular HUD, its preventing me from exiting a tent... any ideas?

    No.

For the extra hotbar thing, there's a red button at the bottom next to the normal one that turns it on and off...

And for the dual-class, I think I would recommend fighter over mage for assassin to dual into if you want to dual.

So what I'm hearing there's no real benefit for dual classing an assassin unless i want to go to a fighter also? I think I'll need my thieving kits levelled for all the annoying dungeons and the like, so I'll stay pure

Assassins really only get their big benefits (the backstab multiplier, mostly) at relatively high levels, and heir thief abilities progress slowly. It's tough to get real benefit out of an assassin dual-class without accepting serious downtime.

I am not sure its worth dualing assassin at all, it gets many of its benefits at levels that are too high to make dual classing beneficial.

If you are willing to cheat, or spend 90% of the game as only one class so you are very powerful the last 10% of the game mage is a good choice, and fighters are fighters, so they are always solid though not as good as mage in BG.

    @Madhax Poison Weapon

I did it for RP reasons, but yeah dualing out of an Assassin generally isn't a good idea practical-wise. Poison weapon and +1 to hit and damage isn't really worth only getting 15% thieving skills per level.

dual at 15 to mage and you still get full poison weapon and x5 backstab multiplier, plus all those mage spells

If you're going to dual at less than max backstab, I'd just as soon play vanilla thief or bounty hunter. Poison weapon is pretty good, but I'd sooner get extra utility through thief skills.

dual at 21 and spend most of the second half of the game as an under leveled mage, then the last 5% as the bhaalspawn you were destined to be

I dualed mine really early on to mage so I could play a mage with 100 detect illusions and poison weapon. The detect illusions is amazingly useful and combined with the poison weapon makes him a fantastic anti-caster. And poisoned MMM is very efficient for damage.

How much of a delay does detect illusions have though? Is it faster than having another character in the group cast true sight?

And now that I learned that poisoned weapon applies to MMM, I have to try this combo. Does it work with Energy Blades too?

The assassin's poison weapon effect will work with any weapon. It applies to the user, not the weapon being used, so some odd results could occur. How, precisely, would one poison a mace and realistically expect it to get into the target's bloodstream? *shrug* As long as it works within the framework of the game the details don't matter too much.

Even if you bludgeon someone with a mace, it's very likely that it will break the skin. There are also many forms of contact poison, where it only has to contact the skin.

True. The weird thing with this class ability, though, is that it also applies to the assassin's fists. Imagine--an assassin/monk who uses Scorpion style kung-fu with fists that really deliver poison strikes. Fascinating.

Contact poison ore maybe another ring with a creepy needle on top?

The only reason I would Dual an A would be Flvl4/A. You can get more HP, get more profession and still get all benefits of an high level Assassin. But, that can only be done with a savegame editor, and it's some work if you truely only want to get what the combination should be able to use.

I tried it out. 13 Assassin dualed to a Mage. Has to be the most underrated build in the game.

Yeah, the synergy is amazing. I notice I never answered your question but you probably know how detect illusions works by now: it dispels once per round like TS, though TS dispels when it's first cast. But DI doesn't cost you your spell for the round, bypasses SI:Divination, is unlimited and permanent, etc.

I'm pretty sure you can poison your weapon after polyself as well. Slayer form with poison does ridiculous damage.
