Voice chat?

Well, if the multiplayer is going to be reliable now so you will be able to play with people on the click of a button, I believe a voice chat should be implemented. I just cant imagine pausing to type out targeting, calling out for dispels or anything on that front. Majority of the time while fighting would be pausing then typing. And I don't fancy the idea of adding every single person I meet to my skype, I've too many contacts to keep up with as it is.
But I have no idea how complicated it is or isn't to implement a decent voice chat system. So I have no idea if this is too much to ask, or a good idea.

But even to me this "voice chat" seems silly and way out of place for a game like this, which puts me on both ends of the topic.

Thoughts ladies and gentlemen?

waste of the devs time, sry for the bluntness but you can get skype,it's free.
if the devs had unlimited resources i'd say: sure, why not? but that's not the case.

There are endless options out there on the interwebs to choose a voice chat software, so let the dev's work on the bugfixes ratter than voice chat.

It would only be useful if you play with random strangers through some sort of matchmaking. If you're playing with friends, then Skype is good enough.

    6-player game.
If you have a decent computer and internet connetion you can easily run a Ventrilo or TeamSpeak3 server on your computer while playing BG:EE.

Both free versions support 8 people connecting and you only need to give em IP and Password, so no endless lists of people in either Steam or Skype, simple connect and talk.

Skype, Steam Voice Chat, Ventrilo, the list goes on. Why would you want to waste resources, and potentially slow the game down by making it have to run voice stuff alongside of the rest of the engine, all at the same time, when your lazy ass can just download one of the countless free voice chat programs instead?

Take your immature self away from these forums. No place for a person like you in here.

I wasn't aware pointing out that asking people to waste time and money because you're too lazy to get something for free was immature. My humblest apologies. Clearly the definition of maturity and common sense has changed over the years to being 'anyone who doesn't agree with my ideas is an asshole'.

I don't think that voice would be a valuable addition: as others have pointed out, there are many voice over IP options available for playing with friends. When playing with strangers I would actually prefer not having voice chat, simply to keep things impersonal (it is, after all, a game and not a chat service).

All in all, this feature would be largely ignored, only having a place in very niche multiplayer settings.

@Baldur @Sarevokok please keep things civic. Or use private message.

As other have said, I don't think it the most important right now. You could still find some person on the internet, skype them then matchmaking with them, even if they are strangers. So it could be a cool addition, arguably, but realistically will certainly be too much time consuming for devs.

There are enough free calling programs out there... making an in-game voice chat seems highly non-profitable for Overhaul. A waste of resources if you ask me, simply because 1) Not everyone will MP the game, 2) Not everyone has a microphone, and a decent microphone costs nowadays... ok, that's a lie considering my mic is excellent and it cost me 5 euros, but STILL, you get the point. 3) You need a DECENT internet connection to have both a talk and play multiplayer. Sure, I bet most of you won't have this problem, but sadly one like me has a connection as slow as mole asses XD

I don't have anything against the suggestion, but I am convinced 95% of the players wouldn't need it. Besides, running a "call" program on the background HARDLY slows down the game. Had enough experience with both calls mid-game and recording software (THOSE are painful) so I know what I be sayin' yo!
