Simple Question

Good evening to everyone!
I've been an avid reader of these forums for some time, after recently purchasing BG2EE i've found myself missing some of the more prominent mods I used to run with the original game.
I know they're all in the process of being fixed and having the bugs ironed out, and that's great! I'm glad the community still cares so much for this game.
I've read over the stickies but still have some questions that I couldn't seem to find answered.
I run both BG1EE and BG2EE via steam, i've dabbled with custom portraits and sound sets, and found the info regarding these very helpful.
However! If I want to run new NPC mods (Keto was an old fave), Unfinished Business and Ascension for example how do I go about modding my steam install?
Do the mods still get unpacked into the steamapps/common/BG directory and ran or do they require an install that does not use steam?
I know to the people in the know this may be a really silly basic question, but for the life of me I really cant find an answer and i'd like to have some semblance of what i'm doing when the mods are complete so I can add them for what will probably be my second play through by that point.
