Consequences of switching gender

[CONTAINS SPOILERS ABOUT HEXXAT! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!]

Hi,

I started as male evil blade but it seems I can't romance Hexxat as one. Going to play as a goodie character also but taking evil aligmented thief who also has other not so goodie aligment "traits". So it seems my only possibility is to switch my gender to female. I'm currently in last chapter of BG1.

So I was wondering if tampering your gender midgame has chance to blow back? My EEKeeper experience is limited to stat and thief skill changing.

    From the sounds of things it should be fine.

    Mostly depends what gender you're switching to.

    If you're a female switching to a male, you might experience the urge to pee while standing in front of a tree, and to watch debilitating football games while drinking beer and eating pizzas doing nothing worthwhile with your body and/or grey matter.

    If you're a male switching to a female, you might experience the urge to run into malls to buy a shnitzton of shoes or to comment/over-analize every and any little thing that people said (or not, but could have been said ..) about you while you were in front (Or not) of them. Or someone that knows them. Or their ex girlfriend/boyfriend/whatever that used to have their affection.

    Yeah, that's dangerous stuff.

    From a mechanics perspective, I suspect that your character has a set global variable designating gender. If you EE:Keeper the gender from Male to Female, you 'Should' be fine (perhaps one of the DEVs could confirm?) as that should change the permanent value such that when Hexxat comes around, she always sees you as female. If, on the other hand, you use the belt instead, I "Think" this is a curse and will not overwrite the default value. In that case, i don't think that Hexxat will respond (again, DEVs???) because the default gender value will still read as male, but with a curse to female.

    Here's a thought. Why not simply start BG2:EE with a character of the same/similar name and stats only a different gender? The only thing you are missing out on is a few measly XP points. And once you get rolling in BG2:EE, believe me those piddly amounts won't make a bit of difference. Losing 80K XP is nothing when you are getting quest and encounter bonuses in the hundreds of thousands or millions.

    Just a suggestion which should resolve the entire problem.

    Ye, will do that most likely. Just to be on the safe side of not breaking anything.

    The gender belt works for the other romances, I don't see why it wouldn't work for Hexxat.

    Yep you could always restart and then EEkeeper your stats/experience back so you don't even miss out there.

    @Aranthys - Nice stereotyping.

    @OP: I wouldn't use the gender change belt because you would have to keep it there and block the slot you could use for more useful belts. Changing with EEKeeper should work. You can change the portrait and voiceset in BG2EE. The only thing I found to not work was the default casting voice (I changed my male cleric to female with EEkeeper once, and kept the male casting sound. This might not be an issue if you edit and then import to BG2EE, never tried that.)

    Maybe that's just how she talked when casting spells :D

    She was an evil, insane cleric. Very possible it was demon possession or something. :D
