Update Crashed Updater, Game No Longer Starts

The game crashed while I was moving things around in inventory, which is not unusual. In this case, I was trying to unbug Viconia's weapon slots because I once cast a magic weapon. But this time, there was an update notice and I clicked on it. Maybe my bug was fixed. Nope. Updater crashed. Forced it to close, and now it won't even get as far as it did the first time. The little clockwork freezes within moments of restarting.

    I'm having this same issue. I haven't tried reinstalling yet, but if it's still freezing tomorrow I'll give it a shot. The update did the exact opposite of what an update should do.

    @LiamEsler No, I'm unable to do anything. The launcher freezes a second after opening and becomes completely unresponsive. I can still close the launcher from the taskbar though.

    Ahh, so it's the launcher, and not the game itself? Make sure the launcher is completely closed, then go into the folder that contains your installation directory (mine is Program Files (x86\Baldur's Gate II Enhanced Edition\) and delete the .beam and .status files.

    Try relaunching it. Is the error still occurring?

    Having the same issue with Mac, but unsure how to clear cache. The Update also appears to have stalled.

    Same problem for me here @LiamEsler But i don't have a folder like you i went to C/Programs/Beamdog/Games and cut off only the most recent .beam file and not status. Deleting .status cause me to re-download all my games same problem for the older .beam file.

    Its really a nasty bug this one! I'm downloading the patch. I hope i will be able to play.
