Invalid: Numbers

Rather concerned, because my game was working fine, but then when I loaded it up just now (no changes since I last played) I have some worrying instances of dialogue and text scrolls showing up with "Invalid: [numbers]" when I try to read them. It's happened to all of the Anne's Rescue content from Romantic Encounters, and also to all of the text the first time I talked to Bernard in the Copper Coronet the first time after I reloaded (all dialogue options and responses showed up as "Invalid").

Is my game broken? I really, really hope not. This is my Weidu log, if it helps:

    Patches wipe the game directory by nature; any mods installed are removed when you install a patch.

    No. As I said in the OP, no changes since I last played. These things worked when I was playing last night, and now these issues have appeared overnight. No changes whatsoever.

    Unfortunately, the only way these issues could have occurred is if something changed in the installation. What's happening is the TLK (talk table) has been changed in some way, rendering the references to it incorrect. How that's happened, I'm not sure; generally this only happens when mods get reinstalled or a patch is installed (which reverts an installation to its default state).

    Another daft question: when you installed the mods, did you use a hardlinked tlk or anything along those lines?

    The only thing I can think of is that Steam updated the game during the night, but then I've both not heard of Steam being an issue with this kind of stuff (and I would've thought it would be in big red bold letters somewhere on here "Steam may screw up your entire game, be careful with that") and also there's not been any updates that I can find.

    If that's what's happened, what can I do?

    Having the same issue myself with BG2:EE and yeah all I can think of is Steam updated something. Best course of action is maybe to reinstall all of our mods?

    Well, as it's been brought up again, I ended up discarding all my saves instead and restarting the game. Annoying.

    There needs to be a notice in one of the stickys for Steam users to have auto-updates DISABLED. No fun at all having your game screwed up.

    There's no need for that. Steam clears out the Override folder when it patches.

    What you should do is uninstall all your mods, validate your game files through Steam, and reinstall all the mods.

    Problem solved.
