A purely visual upgrade!

Well, this is strictly a visual request, very minor. But I remember that some characters (namely the Bard in BG2) had colors you could not select yourself. Mostly metallic chromatic colors. I remember Ramazith had something similar, where his Mage Robe was nothing out of the ordinary in color, but both of his own colors were unattainable. I was just wondering if it would be possible to make the whole spectrum available?

Also, Mage hats.

And maybe change the cape on the avatar depending on what cloak you have on?

And similarly, visible Ioun Stones...

Do note, that I am not even sure just how possible they changes are, or how feasible they would be. That's it, all I got. =)

    There is a One Pixel Production mod which gives you access to a wide selection of colours. If I was to be neurotic I'd say that only certain colours of clothing were possible in Medieval times, because of the lack of pigments available. Fun fact, purple was rare and expensive.

    The colours available aren't exactly 'authentic', in the game or mod unfortunately.

    They can't add mage hats or change cloaks. Any editing of avatars isn't permitted by their legal agreement people.

    Pretty sure avatar editing is permitted, but overhaul does not want to devote resources to it due to the loss of all the original artwork so if they updated one thing they would have to update all of it so it isn't out of place and they did not have the time or resources to do that.

    That makes sense. I didn't dislike the original BG, hehe, don't get me wrong. I think I must have more than 500 hours of gametime so far, hehe.

    But I wasn't even aware of that add-on. Thank you for pointing that out, Ward.

    @Ward I don't think real world pigments should be applicable to the Realms as high fantasy is a colourful place! I'd hate to restrict that.

    t'was only made by boiling and fermenting barnacles in the medieval times, made the producers stink, apparently.... tho we can assume theres easier ways to make it in Faerun :)

    I do believe you guys are talking about the purple of Phoenicia. :P The Roman was paying especially high prices for it, hehe. I think it was the color for the senator togas.

    @CheOffshore @Skydree you mean Tyrian Purple (I think that was the official name)/murex. It comes from the secretions of certain sea snails that only live in the Mediterranean. And it was very hard/expensive to Produce. It was also a very reddish purple. There was also "Royal Blue" or "Indigo Blue" made from a related sea-snail, that was a more bluish purple.

    When you can obtain secretions from dragons and beholders, I guess your color palette gets increased in a wide fashion.

    @CheOffshore @Skydree @LadyRhian
    And then there was Royal Red, which was made from crushing specific lice. Thousands of lice.

    Man, people in ye olden days had weird ways of getting colours.

    I won't tell you how they did yellow! ;-)

    I would also like to see the more unique colors become available. After a while of playing, I prefer to make more exotic looking characters (at least, compared to how they usually are) and it's often irritating to do so because I usually run into the problem of modding in colors that end up crashing the game, with no real indication on what will and won't cause problems beyond trial and error.

    @Ward

    Wouldn't Magic and fantastic fauna and flora sort of make pigments more common?

    @Drugar They had to work with natural materials. Most dyes were plant based, and there was no real "white" You had undyed linen (which is a rather creamy color) and homespun, i.e. undyed wool, also a rather creamy color- yellowish white from white sheep, and black from black sheep. Most plant based dyes do yellow and green and brown pretty well, but other colors were protected (like blue from woad) or hard to get, or not colorfast (i.e. would fade quickly). And you had to live in the South, near the Mediterranean to get bright red/purple or bright blue/purple- those were animal based dyes.

    Sorry for the thread necromancy, but there are already mods available that make ioun stones visible, among others Ding0's tweak pack and @Demivrgvs's item revisions (same actual mod included in both I believe).

    The graphics in question is quite nice too and available in multiple colours, can see screenshots at http://www.shsforums.net/topic/43792-lols-rezmod/

    Yep, the base animation was created by WoRm and then I simply re-colored it to fit each stone. Btw, those screenshots don't make justice imo, in-game they look better! ;)

    I agree, they look really nice in action. Seem to be based off the amyag_f and amyag_b.vvc:s, but edited and reduced in size.
