Cannot Finish Character Creation

in BG:EE Bugs (v1.2)
I have BG:EE on a mac. When I try to create a new character, I get to the screen that asks for me to supply a name. When I try to enter it on my keyboard, nothing happens. The screen will alllow me to go backwards, but since I am not submitting a name, I cannot continue. I've tried searching for key words since this is a really big bug that I am sure was addressed, but I cannot find any reference.
