Fresh Install; Crashes on Launch

I did a fresh install of BGEE. I've never had BGEE installed on this laptop, so there's no mods to worry about. I have 32 bit colours, my graphics and openal are up to date. I've had the old Baldur's Gate 2 installed on this laptop before, so I know I have the system specs to run the game fine.

I'm not even sure the game installed properly - the folders seem a bit... empty. There's files there, but it feels like there should be more of them, you know? And I can't even FIND the baldur.ini file.

I've tried running it in compatibility mode, with and without a bunch of the other options selected in the bgee launcher shortcut's properties.

Nothing works. It just keeps crashing.
