Help with Neera's Quest Ending (Spoilers)

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
So I went through the red wizard enclave, killed the boss (Lennath I think is her name), saved all the people from the cages in the back and they returned to the hidden refuge. My journal says to return to the hidden refuge. However this is the problem, I return to the hidden refuge and it's still destroyed and there's no one there except all the cats. Help? What did I do wrong

    You need to have Neera in the party.

    Otherwise, the wild mages will go into hiding and the camp will be empty.
