Strange Death of the Cooked Crane Lich

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
I was starting to fight the Lich when he suddenly died after completing his time stop/Meteor Storm/Gate, Imp Mantle, etc. Minsc was attacking him with Azure edge, but didn't make any hits according to the dialog. I've attached screenshots of the whole encounter so you can share my puzzlement.

Nothing special in my strategy, attacked while still blue and thus the damage from my PC and Yoshimo while I summoned a Mountain Bear and an Earth Elemental to occupy the attention of the Lich and his pet demon.

The kill is credited to Minsc, but why didn't the hit show up?

    good question. maybe lich got his protect from evil dispelled by the pit fiend then killed by him?

    well i would stop thinking about it. it seems to be some kind of bug.

    Probably a hit didn't do any damage due to Stoneskin but the trigger still went (like how Flail of Ages goes through SS).
