You cannot save at this time.
You may not rest at this time.

I swear I'm using more friggin time zoning out to watchers keep to get some rest than actually playing the game. Once I'm stuck in this sequence inside Baldurs Gate I have to leave the city completely to get rid of it. The old version of BG2 I played had same issue, but has since been fixed by a fan fix that is now years old. Why has this not been solved?

There is currently a bug with Spirit Armor that if you fail your save, you are considered in combat for the full duration of the spell. For right now, your best bet is to not use spirit armor until this gets fixed in a upcoming patch.

Provides a hotfix, not the best workaround as it changes the spell to do no damage but at least you get to use the spell.

Spirit armor! I had a feeling that was doing something, I did not have issues until I started to use it. I don't know how to apply that mod you linked, as I can't find the folder "override" that OP refers to. Either way, I guess Ghost Armor will probably do until they get it fixed, or for difficult battles I might have to dispel myself.

    Cheers.

So glad I found this! I redid the entire bard/plane quest, because I couldn't save after - and now got stuck like that again and didn't want to go back to an old save. Glad I didn't! :-) Thanks!

ctrl-r on the guy with spirit armor removes the offending effect.

Ugh! Annoying bug that I'm experiencing too! Glad to know this is due to Spirit Armor.

I have a similar problem, but as a fighter, i'm doing a solo run, and i'm stuck in irenicus' dungeon, I just used the golem to open the doors and killed the swamp thing in the middle of the door section. opened some chests, got poisoned, so I started trying to rest, no go.

I'm not in combat, been waiting around forever, no spells in effect on me, nothing. I have no clue, maybe it's because i attacked the invincible golem? can't save, can't rest, i'm completely stuck. And no, I didn't activate the golems in the room, I already killed those on my way over, just stuck in the swamp guy middle room.

Wow, even going into the astral plane of air isn't resetting it, I can't rest anywhere, I am surprised i am making it this far, i may be able to make it completely out of the dungeon without even one rest (heal) or save on solo, but that's really hard man, this game is way tougher than I remember it... hah

    @l33tspock: :)

So another thing that can stop rest is an NPC moving to you to initiate dialog. I forget whether there's anything in Irenicus's dungeon that needs to talk with you but if an NPC anywhere on the map has decided it needs to talk with you and starts to move toward you, your game will not be able to save till that conversation has completed. You might consider walking back around the map you've already covered to see if anything is either agro or waiting on a conversation with you.

Mine starts as soon as I first set foot in the Copper Coronet. Won't let me save or rest at all after that no matter where I go.

The Copper Coronet is awash in NPC's looking to grab your attention. As noted above, the moment an NPC starts to initiate a conversation with you, you're flag set to be in an action stage and cannot save.

Head back into the Copper Coronet and go through the room.

Specifically there is the woman trying to get you to save her castle (Replacement for Imoen) - North/Middle of the main room, a guy trying to pick a fight with you (South east/middle of the room, slightly west of where you enter), and I think one other triggered encounter in the northern part of the room, around the middle area...and finally Hexxat in far north / western part of the room, just northish of the bar. All of those will attempt to initiate conversations with you and put you into non-save mode. There are other things in the CC that will do the same thing, these are just the easiest to accidentally trigger.

Just outside the CC is also an encounter that could put you into non-save mode as well.

Again, simply leaving the area DOES NOT fix the issue. You MUST manage the triggered encounter first before you will be able to save again.

Also don't forget the ctrl-r (with developers console enabled) on your character and / or your party characters to remove effects that might be causing this issue as well.

If you can find anything else and/or repo this (or upload a saved file where this is occuring) we might be able to track down more info.

Yeah I talked to everyone in the bar, and killed the 2 muggers outside. I gave up and laoded back to the Circus Tent, came back and didn't have any probs. I save about every minute to try and find it.

Finished the Hendak quest, went to the sewers, saved right before that first hobgoblin fight, killed them all, and now it won't let me save again. As far as I know there are zero convo's from those hobgoblins.

    Anyway, I'll keep trying.

    What's the "developers console"?
  • ObbsObbs Member Posts: 11
Oh the CluaConsole thing. Yeah I have that enables.

At any rate, the ctrl-r thing does work, it's just that it also removes any buffs I currently have active too. Kind of a bummer, but I'll deal with it.
