One thing I don't understand...

Why do Dwarves get a -2 penalty to charisma, but Half-Orcs don't? To me, it would make more sense if H-O got the negative as well, since they wouldn't fit in with Orcs or Humans.

Because most of the lack of charisma originates from the beard.

I'd rather say no to a Half-Orc than deal with a frothing, 4 foot battering ram attacking my knees with a hammer!

It probably has to do with the fact that the game was originally released during a period of time when the rules were shifting from second edition to third. The designers had a rough idea of the new material that was coming out, but they didn't really design everything to correspond to what it should have been.

Charisma isnt the same as appearance.

It's a bug, it should only be -1

Nah its always been the case in 2nd edition D&D that Dwarves maximum charisma (on character creation) is 16.

    Search for Racial Ability Requirements

"Consult Table 7 before making any racial adjustments to your character's ability scores."

In other words Dwarves get -1 to that 17 value. Just like halflings don't start out with 18 strength (which is what that table shows) they get -1 to that 18.

Well spotted. I should've know I was wrong, since nobody else spoke up about it.
