is most XP for Overhaul Bonus characters' quests per party or per person?

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
The idea of "wasting" too much XP on NPCs I won't keep very long bothers me. I just want to know if the new NPC quests mostly reward XP to split among party or not. I think it's lame that I care, and yet I still do.

    I just bring party members up to speed with SetCurrentXP, personally. Particularly Imoen, after I rescue her from Spellhold.

    For Neera it's per person. Although, and this is just my opinion, the XP given is definitely on the cheap side. I did Neera's last quest in Waukeens Promenade, and it took me HOURS to complete and was by far the most difficult battle I've faced so far and I got a wooping 2000xp/person or so for that.

    When comparing that to, for example, one of the quests for Aran Linvail where you have to meet up with some people in Five Flagons Inn, I got ~28000xp/person for about 10 minutes of work.

    I did Neera's quests fairly early in the game (chapter 2 or 3) so I don't know if it's auto-adjusted based on that, but it definitely felt more than a little bit underwhelming especially considering I got handed the short-end of the stick when I couldn't finish the side-quests in the camp due to Neera's main quest being a bully.
