Armor of the Hart dissolves to dust

I kept the Armor of the Hart in my inventory while wearing Full Plate +5, ready to switch when I got to the overworld. After fighting my way to the surface, however, I found a pile of dust in my inventory where the armor used to be.

    I recently passed this point myself and didn't experience this bug.
