Upgradable SAFEHOUSE

Personally I really hope that safehouses are added to BGEE.

The advantages of having a safehouse in the game:
*Players would never have to worry about items being lost, or where they have stored them in the first place.
*More side quests can be added to the game, without interfering the main storyline.
*Few costly upgrades for your private safehouse can solve the problem of excessive gold later in the game. [1]
*Safehouses in games normally have some serious architectural features that are visually attractive.

It's probably unrealistic to hope any safehouses to be added on existing maps, it might be possible for the developer to add new area specifically for safehouse. So it would be a bit like in Elder Scrolls 4 where you can fast travel to an independent area where your safehouse is located. Considering adding this feature in BGEE is no small task, personally I don't mind receiving it as a paid DLC, as long as it's well made.

If Overhaul decided to add safehouses to BGEE, there are some suggestions that I like to make. First of all, these havens should be functional, there should be plenty of different containers so that the players can sort out their belongings. Secondly, these safehouses should be unique, they are not mere warehouses. Lastly, the quests from these safehouses should be made humorous and rewarding.

Feel free to describe your perfect safehouse and please give reasons for it.

This is an interesting point... although personally I feel like the big difference between BG1 and BG2 is awareness. In BG1 you're kind of floundering a bit, you don't really know what you're doing and you have to get your bearings. Although later in the game though, this idea would definitely make sense.

Hmmm still a bit on the fence about this idea myself, but I wouldn't be upset if the idea was put to practice... what do you think should be the criteria for these safe houses? Would it be what class you are, what Alignment you chose?

I totally agree with you that BG1 and BG2 are very different. In BG1 you are much more humble and sometimes lost in your journey, it's only in BG2 where you reach that sort of epic levels. So it would be kind of weird to have, say a castle for your haven while you are only at level 6 or 7; it does not make sense for you to start training minions neither, for you are pretty much a rookie yourself.

I think that a safehouse would still have its significance in BGEE, namely its functionality and ability to pack extra quests. However it need to be done differently than those in BG2. Safehouses in BGEE should definitely be kept a low profile to match the hero's background. Perhaps we don't even need any class/alignment restrictions for safehouses, a universal safehouse for all classes sounds about right to me.

I think a safe house would be incredibly useful. I think if they would have one it should be a large-ish shed of something similar. I would like it to be that on your traces you saved a farmer from some trolls or something and he would say something along the lines of "Thank you, i don't have anything to reward you with but i have a spare shed you can use"

Thats not a very good example but something like that something kind of believable

This idea was already mentioned in a thread about the necessity of gold sinks in the game. And quite frankly, I love it.

Having a flashback here... wasn't there a woman you save in the basilisk area that points you towards her house if you tell her that you demand payment, doesn't she like, give it to you?

I believe the house she points you towards is submerged though... LMAO

Yeah, exactly. Seems she was petrified for quite some time.

@The_New_Romance oh definitely lol. Now I'm wondering about exactly what that story is. I think I'm going to start a new thread on feature requests JUST to get some back story on that.

But back to the topic at hand, Having some sort of house for storage would be neat... but I think in order to have quests come up, and stuff like that, you'd have to have the safehouse somewhere where alot of people pass by it so it becomes plausible.

Definitely, place like Baldur's Gate would be a wonderful location to add a safehouse, but since the developer is very cautious about modifying existing contents, only time can tell. I couldn't help to notice that there is a vast empty area just east of Baldur's Gate, perhaps the safehouse could be placed right next to Wyrm's Crossing. It makes sense to do it this way, because people traveling in and out of BG, they have to go across Wyrm's Crossing.

Yeah it would be cool if you could find a secret base you have to clear out in the upper right corner by the mountains. It would be even better if you had to steal it from a Dreadknight or another less seen enemy in D&D.

I hope they use the original map, I'm not a fan of the Tutu one.

:) I'd pretty much go for any additions to this game as long as they make sense according to logic and the story. A safehouse would be kind of awesome, especially if they don't add any bags of holding. I'm a huge collector fan, so I pretty much keep every gem, spell scroll and named magic item I find.

There's a house in Beregost whose owner allows you to stay there. You can store gear there in dresser drawers. (Do not steal from him however.) I always use it as headquaters. That's in the vanilla game. It's directly across from the Red Sheaf Inn. For the life of me, I can't remember the owner's name atm...
