[BUG] Fireshield (Blue) and/or (Red) disappear from spellbook

This was tested with a Multi Fighter9/Mage10 using a Scroll of Fireshield (Blue) in BG2:SoA. Scroll purchased from cutpurse in Bridge District. Not sure if that's relevant.

Scribed the scroll Fireshield (Blue) then I loaded it to a new slot, when I then Right Clicked, in my book, to view details on the spell, the spell was not in my book any longer when I backed out to look at my book again. Cannot scribe a new scroll of Fireshield (Blue) and cannot see it in my book. I then scribed Fireshield (Red) and it's there just fine.

Spells shouldn't vanish from your book, obviously. If I had erased it, then I could scribe it again. So, that's not it. Not to mention I used ESC to back out not the mouse. So, I couldn't have hit Erase.

    There's only one scroll of blue fireshield in game, SCRL1W. That said, I can't reproduce the issue.

    @HordeQ:

    So a couple questions:

    1) Do you have a saved game where scribing Fireshield:Blue causes it to tell you you already have it learned?

    2) You say in your game you have fireshield:blue learned to a spell slot but no longer in your spell inventory?

    Not sure if a saved game post loss would do anything, but it could be just a visibility problem. Can you post your save up?

    I think I have a copy of the bug. I eventually stepped back a few hours and managed to stop it. Give me a few to take a look for it. The guy most definitely had a Fireshield (Blue) on him and I did buy it. It was the cutpurse um..east of the old witch at nighttime.

    Here. I just noticed I tried to view it in my book on new save and it disappeared again..lol. So, new save coming up. Added a screenshot of the missing spell. I don't have another scroll or I'd SS that too.

    The only problem I've had that sounds similar to yours is having 25+ spells in the spellbook, which AFAIK is only achievable with mods or fiddling with EEkeeper to give yourself spells you wouldn't have had access to otherwise.

    In my case, I just unwrote some superflous spells to make the one I wanted visible again. I have 22 vanilla spells for level 4 currently.

    You mean 25+ per level or total? Because total is fairly easy since quite a few spells are sold at vendors. I don't believe I have anywhere near that per level, no. 18 where Fireshield should be.

    It may just be a visibility issue but, that doesn't really change the problem...can't memorize it if you can't click on it. I grabbed an editor to try to play around with it and fix the problem. Keeps disappearing here though =P

    I believe Tsyrith means 25+ in a single level. The UI displays 3 rows of 4 spells per page, with 2 pages per spell level, which is 24 spots for known spells to be displayed. That raises the question of how the game handles cases where more than 24 spells of a particular level are known. I don't happen to have any characters that have so many known, so I'm not sure what happens in that situation.

    Since you only have 18 level four spells that potential problem shouldn't be a factor in this case.

    I have two Mages who know Fireshield (Blue). Neither of them has lost access to it at any point after learning it. They are both generalist Mages (dual-classed from other classes into Mage, as it happens).

    Is your character suffering this problem a generalist or a specialist? If a specialist, which kind?
    Edit: Nevermind, I see from your save that you are a multiclass generalist.

    Do you have any mods installed?

    Fighter/Mage Multi no Specialty. No mods installed. Fireshield (Blue) was display in the slot that Fireshield (Red) now resides in on the screenshot in the attachment. I learned (Red) long after the issue happened and it fell into the slot.

    As I said, I scribed the spell, went into spellbook, right-clicked to view details, ESC'd back out, and it was gone. A few minutes ago, I added a scroll of Blue to my inventory with the editor I just mentioned and it didn't have a scribe button...just to double check =P

    Perhaps loading it into an empty slot, then viewing the details is what caused it? Have not seen anyone say they tried it like I wrote it. I did have an item with extra 4th level spells equipped at the time..maybe a correlation?

    I'm making a new toon right now, I guess I will see if it happens again this play through. If I decide on any mage levels, that is.

    @HordeQ: So there's a couple things I'm seeing.

    1) You're at maximum spells for level 4 (18). I doubt this makes any difference at all.

    2) When I unlearn a spell from your 4th level spell inventory, create a Fireshield:Blue scroll and learn it, it allows me to learn the spell into the spell book just fine.

    Scroll is SCRL1W, you can use the console to get another scroll. Tell me if your copy of the game is NOT allowing you to scribe in another copy of the Fireshield:Blue scroll.

    Edit: It's there by following your steps and it's there after restart/reload of the game/save. Not sure where else to go to re-produce this.

    With the new interface, I've accidentally erased spells when I was looking at their descriptions. I seem to remember the original game giving a warning before you could erase a spell from your spellbook, but EE does not. The 'erase' button is just on the bottom right side, and doesn't stand out as something you shouldn't click. Is it possible that this caused the problem?

    I've already went through another gameplay in the time we've discussed this. So, I'm not too concerned with the issue anymore. Like I said, I created the results, I saved the toon with the results, and I screenshot the results.

    Not much more for me to do. I'm not getting paid to bugfix. Just thought the devs would want to know that it happened.
