Staggered because it's easiest to deal with in the narrow-halled dungeons. Which isn't saying much, but follow the leader is a disaster and everyone gets lost, plus I like having two melee people up front to deal with oncoming enemies so line is out too.
Generally I use some combination of either the 2X3 Vertical or the T shape. It really depends on where I am. In a Dungeon it's two by two formation. If out in the wild, it's Party leader flanked by two fighter types with ranged types (clerics, wizards and thieves) in the back.
While I'm unable to settle on a formation due to constantly changing what I use (not necessarily within one game, but from game to game), I can say that in my current run I've mostly been using the staggered column formation and follow the leader.
I prefer follow the leader or line because it prevents my squishy characters from getting in front of the armoured ones (happens all the time for some reason.) Plus I like to pretend I'm Colonel Hathi
