[Spoiler Alert] Valygar Sphere quest

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
I finished Valygar's quest about the sphere and all but as soon as i beat the mage Lavok (not killed him) and the dialogue started valygar dissappeared from my party.
I thought it was part of the quest or something but now i cant find him.
He is not at his cabin. Is there a place where i can find him ? (he has my items)
or is it a bug ???

    I forget which spells Lavok has but Imprisoned maybe?

    maybe. didnt thought of that! but i am way past that point and i dont have the levels or the spell. If i get back there later on will i be able to free him ???

    Valygar has a home in Athkatla. Docks District, I think? But this sounds like a bug anyway.

    I went to his house in docks district and a man inside told me that master Cothara is dead. But Valygar didnt die, nor leave my party... just dissapeared. I fear the possibility of imprisonmnent but i wont be able to get the freedom spell anytime soon. I need both my items and my compansion (i think he is strong). Any ideas???
