I did a strange thing...

So I was playing, and my PC Berserker reached level 13. I said, "great!" But I also thought about it. I mean, level 13 is pretty much the last useful level for warriors, right? So I looked at that nice shiny dual-class button, and man, I went there. So now I'm a fighter/thief.

Of course, this was very silly of me, since I had all my proficiency points in two-handed swords and longbows and two-handed weapon style. On the other hand, I'll be able to use Carsomyr (or however the hell you spell that) eventually!

I also decided that I was going to dual-wield katanas, because I had just cleared the locked compound, and picked up the lovely +3 katana there. For now, I have one point in katanas, and one in two weapon style.

I assume that once I get past level 14 in thief, I will be able to put additional points into both of these categories. If I'm not mistaken, can I put up to five in katanas and three in two-weapon? If so, should I work on getting grandmastery before maxing out two-weapon? Should I max out two-weapon before achieving grandmastery? Should I try to split them?

Also note I have natural 19 strength (tomes, hurrah!) so my THAC0 is actually fairly respectable.

First, yes, you will be able to get Grandmastery in Katanas and 3 pips in TW.

I'd advise putting a second pip in TW style (which will give you normal THAC0 with your main hand) and then the rest in Katana. =)

I would advise you to reload before you went into Katana points and instead start putting proficiency points into staffs. You will be able to backstab with the most powerful backstab weapons, while also benefiting from two handed weapon style.

Berserker/Thiefs are weird. I mean, do they get super angry before backstabbing or something? Kinda ruins the point to get angry and rage silently before using a backstab fueled with anger and adrenaline :P

I prefer the idea of kensai thiefs, myself. You know you're doing something right when 2 pips in a shortsword let you do 64 damage on a backstab with a +0 short sword.

I love Beserker/Thieves. I picture a man or woman holding back the rage and concentrating it on the single point of a blade, finally releasing it all in a glorious run-through of some poor sod's sternum. Upon discovery, he/she flies into an uncontrollable frenzy, lashing out at any survivors.

Eww. Next thing someone will make a Sword of Truth mod.

I think it's more like they can channel their hate into focused killing power. They hate their target so much that they simply ignore any attempts to stop them from reaching their victims.
