Character equipped with Mail of the Dead +2 and Bracers of Defense AC 4. What is crushing AC?

What the subject line says. At this point in the game, Mail of the dead +2 is good for my character because her weight allowance is 90 lbs and the 10 lbs mail grants her a base AC of 3 (same as 50 lbs Plate Mail), except the AC against crushing weapons is 5 (kinda sucky). So, I was wondering if I could band-aid that a little by having her wear bracers of defense AC 4 (which aren't being used by another character ATM; and she isn't wearing anything else on her wrists yet).

Obviously the mail would override the bracers in most things, but would the bracers override the mail in terms of crushing attacks?

Thanks.

As far as I know, those two don't stack with each other. I'm not totally sure, though.

My best guess is that equipping the bracers would have no effect if you have the mail equipped. Easy enough to find out though. Just equip both and check your AC modifiers in the character record screen.

I think what happens is that it sets your base AC to 3 and then gives you a +2 bonus vs slashing and -2 penalty to crushing. These bonuses are of the type you'd get if you were wearing one of those special girdles like Elves' Bane.

Since your bracers of defense don't beat the base AC of the chain mail it won't do anything.

It should work that the best AC modifier wins, but I'm not sure that it does. So in this case, since the AC 4 of the bracers is better than the AC 5 vs. crushing, the AC 4 should win. Everything else with better with the armor, so it is used in all other cases. That seems logical, but again, never actually bothered to verify, and 2ED is often NOT logical.

Why not wear the Destroyer of the Hills belt that adds +4 to crushing AC ? I just looked at this with a H/O Cleric/ thief - with Mail of the dead he had -2 slashing and +2 crushing - with the belt added he had -2 to both.

I usually do that with full plate. Full plate gets -3 to slashing/piercing (-4 to missile), so combined with that girdle you're pretty much wearing armor with a base AC of -2 (-3 vs. missile or bludgeoning).

Actually full plate is -3 to missile/piercing (-4 to slashing), sorry for nitpicking :)
