Black Pits Multiplayer Timeout

Some things I thought were bugs in the past turned out to be intended behavior, but I can definitively say that this is not.
Current behavior: BG:EE experiences player timeout (the non-hosting player) in multiplayer after nearly every fight in the Black Pits, around the time of the post-fight save process.
Expect behavior: No such problem.
That's about it. Whenever we fight a battle in the Black Pits, after the fight, autosave kicks in per usual. However, after the pause for autosave, almost inevitably, my friend "times out" and I assume control of one or all of his characters. It is not always all of them. I am the host, and the game is being hosted via Beamdog, not TCP/IP.
