How do Aussies Get into the Christmas Spirit...?

BaldursCatBaldursCat Member Posts: 432
Sorry if you clicked on the thread title hoping to find a punchline, I've got nothing for ya!

This time last year, if I had knackers to freeze off in the first place, I was freezing them off in frosty old Blighty, this year I'm here in paradise (yes, it is, it's currently being run by a bunch of flockwits but generally it's paradise) and it's just heading towards being bloody-roasting-all-the-time and I just can't grasp that it's Christmas in something like three weeks (normally I'd know how many sleeps). Yesterday I had need to pop into one of the many, many malls where you can spend money in metropolitan NSW and if I hadn't looked up I would never ever have noticed the Xmas Decs adorning the ceiling, whereas they're usually everywhere you go. So how on earth do you get into the festive spirit when every single indicator telling you IT'S NOT CHRISTMAS?!

It might be because Christmas is about celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ

Usually with a few coldies and a BBQ.

    Is there any other way?

Yup, which is why us southerners invented Christmas in July.

Also because in December we're off doing cool stuff in the sun, so if our parents want to do the whole family thing, they've got a better chance of getting us all together in July than December.

Course if you're expecting snow, .. well perhaps you need to expect a different sort of party? Just throw a bash, and have christmas when you get home?

The ironic thing is that it's generally accepted in academia that Jesus was born in the summer, not the winter.

So the Aussies actually have it right. :-D

Who's jesus? We celebrate with a lot of beer, wine, and pray to images of Steve Erwin hanging from a sting rays tail. oh, crikey!

    Sounds like a plan!

@The_Potty_1, yep, Christmas in July was already done & this is home so I don't think I'll be seeing snow until next July, assuming it does actually snow in the mountains next year! ;)

I'd rather celebrate the birthday of Sir Isaac Newton on Dec 25. What has Jesus done for anybody?

If Team Fortress 2 is anything to go by... Incredibly humongous amounts of hats.
