Baldur's Gate in Read-Only Memory

I recently dug up my old Baldur's Gate CDs -- BG1, BG2, and ToB. Using Wine, I can get them to work flawlessly under Linux.

I found this: http://www.gog.com/news/enhance_the_gameplay_in_your_edition_of_baldurs_gate_from_gogcom

(That article is a little old -- are those the best mods, or should I be getting others?)

I've spent most of the day trying to install all of this -- it has been a very long and painful process, mostly because I'm using Linux instead of Windows. I think I've nearly gotten everything working -- but I don't want to ever have to do this again.

So I had an idea: What if I could repackage all of this so that I don't have to do it again, no matter how many computers I go through?

Wine allows you to mount folders as other folders, so I could make "/root/saves" on the hard drive function as "c:\Program Files\Black Isle\Baldurs Gate II\saves", and stuff like that. So I could have the games "installed" on a DVD, with only the files that the game needs to edit during gameplay saved on the hard drive.

Is this an achievable goal?

To accomplish this, I need to know what files the Baldur's Gate games edit during gameplay, and which I can convince them that they don't need to edit. For example, I believe the games keep track of what movies you've seen in the baldur.ini file? Could I mark all movies seen, and not have to worry about it trying to edit that file?
