Need help from computer wizzes! using another monitor

Sorry I don't really know where to put this discussion so the mods can move it to wherever is appropriate.

Here is my problem. I've been waiting for months to have the time to play BG2ee but now that the time is finally here (insert excited Boo squeak) my laptop decides to be a jerk and the screen keeps flashing from dark to bright, and is now really really dark. This has been an ongoing on/off electrical problem that I need to fix when I return home next month.

I was hoping to use my older laptop as a display to play the game on, yet I have tried and failed to do this. Keep in mind my computer intelligence is about that of a barbarian who has just fought an Illithid.

What I want to do is use my old laptop as a screen for my new laptop, which has BG2EE installed (i even installed mods for the short period my computer seemed "fixed"). I have a HDMI cable, but don't know how to set it up. I've tried putting it in both ends to connect the two computers, but when i try to extend display nothing happens. Can anyone help me? I'd be super appreciative

Thanks you everybody!

It is unlikely that your laptop has the functionality to enable this.

    Major Morale Failure

    *salutes*

quick google reveals this dude who says AirDisplay will do that for you:

There's other software out there too, like this one:

I dunno, maybe you can find a free one.

Thanks @nano. I'm shut off my other computer and will let it rest for awhile. sometimes it fixes itself. If not I will need glasses in no time or may just have to play icewind dale on my old computer just to get in the zone (bahhhh)

@booinyoueyes you can try to set up a screen share between the two computers. If you have windows you can use something like tightvnc to do it, if you have a mac then the screen share software is built into the OS. The only thing required is that the two computers be on the same network.

I've previously used a hdmi converter to link my MacBook up to my tv... (Converter cost me about £10-15).
Not sure if this is helpful, but...

@abacus Yes, to a tv. But the OP wants to use another laptop as a monitor for one... and most laptops only carry HDMI output. If he had a laptop that had HDMI input, we would have had to go out of his way to get one, and wouldn't be here asking about it ;)

Some people have suggested software solutions, which probably aren't suitable for gaming, even if BG isn't demanding in the least for modern systems.
