How do you safely uninstall and then reinstall mods to preserve existing save games?

Hi there!

I've been playing through BG:EE, and last night I realised that the dream sequences aren't triggering, so I'm not receiving any of the powers. I was going to post to the bugs section, but figured I should uninstall the mods I have first to see if one of those is the problem. What I'm wondering is if there's a way to clean my install to test this, and then reinstall all the mods (testing each one to find out what's causing my issue) whilst avoiding any potential detrimental effects to my current saves. Is it just a matter of keeping a copy of my current weidu.log, and then reinstalling them all later? Or is there a better way?

@Mitchell I talked about that some in this old post: http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/238659/#Comment_238659

If anything is unclear, just ask.

@agris That's awesome, thanks! Seems pretty straight forward, and more or less what I was assuming I'd have to do, but there are a couple of steps in there I would have missed, so I'm glad I have this as a reference now.

@Mitchell keep in mind with the new (> v235) WeiDU, you don't have to use NI to extract the contents of tutorial.biff into the override folder.

edit: or fuck around with hardlinks / syslinks. the logic behind preserving saves, dialogue string modifying mods, etc is all the same
