Dorn THAC0 Modification

I do not have Dorn in my party. I have had his encounter, just south of Nashkel, but I did not recruit him. Yet upon loading my most recent save - in the Naskhel Mines - the first feedback given is 'Dorn- THAC0 Modification' and I was wondering if anyone can shed any light on this.

Why is his THAC0 experiencing a modification? Why is it being reported to my feedback box?

    It's his Rancor sword - it gives him a thac0 bonus on kill and when it expires you get that message. The computer's been keeping track of the bonus the whole time, even though he's not in your party, and it felt like it should inform you of that.
